Toyota, a Mobility Partner of the Giro d’Italia since 2019, expands its contribution to promotion of inclusive society.

Unforgettable challenge

On 14 May, 3 athletes with intellectual disabilities from the Special Olympics Association Italy achieved an unforgettable challenge. They completed the Giro-E, electric bike stage of the Giro d’Italia, one of the most prestigious cycling Grand Tours. The Special Olympics athletes represented the Toyota team together with the official captain Elisa Scarlatta, a passionate Italian amateur cyclist.

Power of sports: everyone can overcome limits

The athletes travelled 30km, becoming spokespersons for the power of sport that drives inclusion and personal development. Through our partnership with Special Olympics which is based on the belief that everyone has the potential to exceed own limits and grow, we proudly supported their challenge at the Giro d’Italia 2023.
“We are proud to have Toyota accompanying us towards a better, more inclusive society. Special Olympics athletes teach us to embrace difficulties as a challenge to be faced with strength, courage and determination. We are glad to share this inspiration with Toyota.”
Alessandra Palazzotti, Special Olympics Italy Director
“We are absolutely proud of this achievement by the Special Olympics athletes. Toyota believes that sport can embody a strong expression of the values of diversity and inclusion, and the athletes showed that it is true. They demonstrated that it is possible to go beyond one's own limits and achieve what seems impossible.”
